Mohammed Nii adjei sowah – AMA Boss
The Mayor of Accra, Nii Adjei Sowah, has served notice that he will not tolerate any act of lawlessness in the city before, during or after the upcoming ‘Homowo’ celebration and ‘Chale Wote’ Festival scheduled for next Friday.
A statement issued by the Head of Public Affairs of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), Gilbert Ankrah, sought to draw the attention of the general public to the recent spate of public order disturbances and chieftaincy disputes in the city and entreated those involved to desist from such acts.
That, he said, was because “such disturbances which often happen pre, during and post the Homowo celebration period needs to be nipped in the bud in order for it not to tarnish the image and the great culture of the Ga people.”
Until this latest pockets of incidence, he noted that “the city of Accra had witnessed some level of peace over these few years but it appears the lack of respect for law and order is slowly creeping back as a norm and called on all persons within the city to respect the Public Order Act 1994 (ACT 491).
“The Assembly would not allow any group or individual to take the laws into their hands and thereby disturb the peace and stability city dwellers have enjoyed so far.”
The AMA has since reiterated the commitment of the Metropolitan Security Council (MESEC) in maintaining law and order at all times and to ensure a peaceful city where all can live in and love it especially during this year’s ‘Homowo’ celebration and ‘Chale Wote’ Festival.
