MPs Laud President For Tamale Celebrations

Members of Parliament (MPs), especially the Minority MPs, have highly commended President Akufo-Addo for celebrating this year’s Independence Day anniversary in the Northern regional capital, Tamale, which was a departure from the norm.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) MP for Tamale Central, Inusah Fuseini, said the celebration was not only historic but also opened up the city to the rest of the world as a tourist and investment destination.

He said the President’s decision to move the celebration to Tamale is one of the best political decisions in the history of the country and the President would always be remembered for that.

He said moving the whole nation to the Northern regional capital has enabled Ghanaians and political figures to appreciate the stark realities of the north, as well as the challenges the people are facing. He said the celebration also brought the people of the north together.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP for Krachi East and Deputy Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Michael Gyato, said the theme: “Celebrating Peace and Unity,” was very appropriate for the occasion, stressing that the objective was to deepen the sense of national unity and portray the importance of peace in the Northern Region, which had been affected by a protracted chieftaincy dispute but now peacefully resolved under the presidency of Nana Akufo-Addo.

He said the celebration in Tamale has helped to improve tourism and also greatly improved sanitation in the city; he urged the city authorities to continue to keep the city very clean.
