MTN Ghana has marked its 30th anniversary with a street float in Accra, using the occasion to engage stakeholders and reaffirm its commitment to its customers and the development of Ghana.

The float, which began at the company’s head office, passed through the Ministries area and Osu before returning to the head office along Independence Avenue.

The event brought together MTN Ghana’s Chief Executive Officer, Stephen Blewett, employees and teams from MTN Ghana, Mobile Money Limited and other fintech operations to celebrate three decades of telecommunications and digital financial services in the country.

Speaking after the float last Saturday, the Chief Human Resource Officer of MTN Ghana, Esi Mmirba Wilson, said the exercise was intended to communicate to Ghanaians that “MTN is here to stay” while celebrating the company’s 30 years of operations.

She said the three decades had been characterised by efforts to expand connectivity, support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and serve customers across the country.

Ms. Wilson said the anniversary celebration also demonstrated MTN Ghana’s partnership with the government and its customers.

She said the anniversary programme would continue with a number of activities, including marketing promotions and opportunities for customers to participate in raffles and win prizes.

According to her, all the regions were participating in the anniversary activities, with the remaining regional celebration scheduled for the following week due to other engagements.

The Customer Value Management Manager of Mobile Money Financial Services, Malik Otu Osman, described the float as a “wonderful” celebration that brought together staff of MTN, Mobile Money and Bayobab, the digital infrastructure subsidiary of MTN Group.

He said the event provided an opportunity to celebrate MTN’s contribution to the development of the GSM and fintech sectors, as well as the wider development of Ghana.

As it begins the next chapter of its operations, MTN Ghana said its focus would include expanding connectivity, deepening financial inclusion and supporting Ghana’s digital transformation.
