Telecommunications company, MTN Ghana paid GH¢1.1 billion as taxes to the government last year.
This consisted of GH¢713 million to the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), GH¢258 million to the National Communication Authority (NCA) for 4G and the rest to other regulatory bodies.
The Corporate Services Executive of MTN, Cynthia Lumor, announced this at the Editors’ Forum in Takoradi in the Western Region to update them on the company’s services and strategic focus.
She indicated that MTN was committed to building vital infrastructure to support the provision of essential services to its mobile subscribers across the country.
Ms Lumor noted that the company’s continuous growth in mobile subscription was as a result of the introduction of innovative services and the quest to meet its customers’ needs.
She stressed that the company would continue to invest in all aspects of the network, expand coverage to rural areas and improve quality in the existing network.
She explained that the MTN 4G network was an advanced data communication technology which offers download and upload speeds faster than the 2G and 3G networks.
“Using 4G also means that users can download large email attachments or other contents from the internet faster,” she added.
She said that “the 4G network would ensure that Ghanaians gain immeasurable benefits in the fast growing data revolution.”
On the company’s challenges, she said it was still grappling with battery theft at its cell sites across the country and fibre cuts as well.
The development, according to her, had not only affected the company’s finances, but impeded the delivery of uninterrupted services to its valued customers.
