MTN Tackles Youth Unemployment

Selorm Adadevoh endorsing the campaign

MTN Ghana has launched the 13th edition of its annual 21 Days of Y’ello Care campaign, with focus on tackling unemployment and drug abuse among Ghanaian youth.

MTN’s 21 Days of Y’ello Care is an annual staff volunteering programme that runs across the MTN Group from 1st to 21st June.

The campaign was instituted 12 years ago and has grown to become one of the key activities of the Group.

For 2019, the programme is under the theme: ‘Creating a Brighter Future for our Youth.’

Speaking at the launch of the campaign on Monday, May 3, 2019, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MTN Ghana Limited, Selorm Adadevoh said, “21 Days of Y’ello Care is a challenge within MTN Group.”

He added that “to get to the winning threshold, we need 95% staff participation and 100% Excom participation. Undoubtedly, we all have a critical role to play.”

He disclosed that this year, the telecom company would focus on addressing youth unemployment, drug abuse and mentoring.

This year, he said MTN is partnering the National Youth Authority (NYA), Narcotics Control Board, among others, to roll out the various programmes.

According to him, about 330 youth would be trained in beads making, digital marketing, make-up, among others.

He said that the company would embark on volunteerism across the country.

MTG Ghana won the challenge in 2010 and 2011.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NYA, Emmanuel Asigri, expressed delight with the partnership.

According to him, with the youth constituting 60 percent of Ghana’s population, the issue of employment was of particular interest to them.

He said NYA was looking at reaching out to 10,000 youth nationwide this year with employable skills.

Corporate Services Executive at MTN Ghana, Samuel Koranteng, urged staff of the company once again volunteer this year.

He said “our communities need our services and we have to show them that we care.”
