My Genuine Fear: The Personal Security Of Dr. Bawumia

  1. “When it comes to unleashing violence, nobody can beat the NDC because we have a revolutionary background” – John Dramani Mahama, addressing NDC supporters in the Volta Region.
  2. “The 2024 election is going to be a do or die affair” – John Dramani Mahama, speaking on Winners FM at Techiman.

Mr. Mahama and his NDC have served notice that they will not go to the Supreme Court (SC) to seek redress if the party loses the 2024 General Election because they do not believe in the SC, the same apex court which declared John Mahama the winner of the 2012 petition.  Mr. Mahama himself has continuously referred to the Supreme Court as engaging in travesty of justice and that he does not believe in the Supreme Court anymore. He teasingly refers to the SC as “Unanimous SC”. So what will they do if they lose the 2024 elections? Hit the streets and vandalise properties? Make the country ungovernable?

Until Dr. Bawumia started his forceful campaign, few Ghanaians never focused on the achievements of the mild guy.  What Dr. Bawumia has done for the past nearly eight years as the Vice President of Ghana is quiet amazing.  I can boldly put my hand in the fire and swear the great oath of the Otumfuo that since Ghana attained independence, no Vice President in any presidential system of governance has been able to perform so well than the Mamprusi man who came in from the cold to make difference.

He has introduced uncountable roof tearing achievements which has changed the game of governance and brought about a quantum leap in our quest to move closer to other developed countries. He has proved beyond reasonable doubt that determination, combine with opportunity and intelligence can make things happen.

The man has a magic wand which he refused to show Ghanaians until recently when he enumerated his achievements. He continues to ignore his critics than paying any attention to them.  His infectious giggles in one way or the other tell his critics that he is focused and serious.  It is an undeniable fact that barely one and half months to the 2024 elections, Dr. Bawumia is cruising to victory.

Today the NDC has kept silent on the issue of the sky rocking prices of petroleum products, the high prices of tomatoes, pepper, garden eggs, onions and other seasonal farm products like cassava, yam, plantain and the rest.  They thought things would stay the same until we go in for the election so that they could use that as their weapon to throw dust into the eyes of Ghanaians. Just compare the economic situation of Ghana  to Nigeria, the largest producer of crude oil in the West Africa subregion and you will see that Ghana has been able to keep her head above water in the face of the current world economic recess.

The unfolding scenario as far as the 2024 electioneering campaign is concerned is interesting and yet scary. The Akans say “se wonipayin a due” (Woe betides he who has no elder in the house).  Dr. Bawumia is a lucky man. There is ex-President Kufuor alive and giving pieces of advice to the Dr. Bawumia Campaign team.  President Akufo-Addo is on the campaign trail and calls it a thank you tour.  Beautiful Rebecca Akufo-Addo, the First Lady, has laced her boots, and on the move doing what she knows best, vigorously campaigning for Dr. Bawumia and some Parliamentary Candidates.  Hajia Samira, the Second Lady seems tireless as she is always on the move.  Other Stewarts of the NPP have joined the campaign trail and it seems every nook and cranny of the country is being covered.

On the other hand, those who matter in the NDC, like the Ahwoi brothers, Spio Garbra, Dr. Dufuor, Wofa Yaw Boateng Gyan and many more are sitting on the fence.  J.J Rawlings, the Founder of the party, is gone and Professor Mills has joined his ancestors in a mysterious way which is yet to be unraveled, and fingers continue to be pointing at Mr. Mahama that he has a hand in his death of the fine Fante gentleman.  As for the Cadres of the Revolution who helped Rawlings in many ways during his campaign, many of them are too old to hit the road whiles others have been neglected and pushed to the back bench and living from hand to mouth.

In fact, many of them could not get good education since they spent all their precious youthful years revolutionising and as such, they are unemployable and have relocated to their villages where they are competing with peasant farmers to make a living.  Such cadres look at the way the likes of Sammy Gyamfi, Okudzeto Ablakwa, Felix Kwakye Ofosu(Abakrampa Gobbles) etc. who were born too late to experience the mad and dangerous  days of the revolution growing fabulously rich and they regret the day they joined the revolution.  As for mercurial and Amazonian lady called Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, she abandoned ship long before it set sail. Naadu Mills is sitting her “somewhere” and minding her own business.

Anyone who has been listening to Asiedu Nketia, Sammy Gyamfi and John Dramani Mahama will realise that the NDC has a sinister motive.  If they lose the 2024 General Election, they will plunge the nation into chaos and thereafter, run away to hide in a foreign country.  Asiedu Nketia has all his children and wife domiciled in Canada, and Sammy Gyamfi has amassed wealth so much so that buying an air ticket and flying to any foreign country of his choice will not be a problem.

As for John Dramani Mahama, if the country starts to burn he will not worry since his brother Ibrahim Mahama has a private jet sitting on the tarmac at the Kotoka International Airport.  All what he will do is to literary pack his thirteen children, his wedded wife and several concubines on board and order the pilot to fly away.  The multimillion question is: what will you the ordinary NDC supporter who cannot make ends meet do? Hide in the bush?  Run to Agege where life is unbearable? Run to one of the French speaking countries surrounding Ghana and begin to learn how to speak and understand French? As for me, my late father has his cottage located deep in the virgin forest in our holy village.  I will run to hide there when Rome starts to burn.  Not even a Ballistic Missile can penetrate that forest!!

My genuine fear is the personal security of Dr. Bawumia as he criss-crosses the country, canvassing for votes.  These people who Mr. Mahama says have a revolutionary background can assassinate him and plunge the nation into trouble.   The sages say anyone who has eaten crab before tells you that he can eat calabash, you don’t have to doubt him.  “Do or die” is a very serious phrase which has many meanings including murder and assassination. We are living witnesses of what Rawlings and his revolutionaries did to Ghanaians.   Some two hundred and sixty eightGhanaians got missing to be seen no more.  Look at how they killed Ekow Nkensen Arkaah?

The NPP leadership should not take things for granted now that it is becoming crystal clear that defeat is staring the NDC in their wicked faces.  Ex-service military officers and BNI should be contracted to see to the safety of Dr. Bawumia.  As the election gets closer and closer, these blood thirsty NDC goons can adopt the tactics of “if you miss the ball, don’t miss the man.” We should bear in mind that the Russian mercenary group, Wagner is operating in Burkina Faso, our close neighbors.  They can hire some of them to do the dirty job and run away back to Burkina Faso.  Remember John Mahama recently visited Russia.  What happened between the murderer called Putin and Mahama is a secret between two of them. This is my story.  This is my song.
