Nana Jabs Mahama Over Poor Performance

President John Mahama, Nana Akufo-Addo

FORMER PRESIDENT Nana Akufo-Addo has descended heavily on President John Mahama’s National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration, slamming them for poor performance.

Without mincing words, he stated emphatically that the NDC government is failing woefully to deliver in political office after giving juicy and tempting campaign promises to woo the electorates to vote for them in 2024.

“You have seen it. The NDC government is not performing,” Nana Akufo-Addo remarked, attracting spontaneous laughter from his audience during the grand opening of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Bantama Constituency office in the Ashanti Region.

According to the former president, the NDC administration clearly doesn’t have the wherewithal to lead the country to the Promised Land, indicating that the NPP stands the chance of booting the NDC out of power in 2028.

Preaches Unity

Nana Akufo-Addo was, however, quick to point out to the NPP members and supporters that they need to unite as one family with a common destiny in order to realise their ambition of recapturing power in 2028.

“After the election of the NPP presidential candidate on January 31, 2026, we need to unite as one political party and confront the 2028 elections,” he admonished, warning that internal wranglings are not needed in the NPP.

Former President Akufo-Addo noted that he was confident that if the NPP members manage to do away with internal fights, backbiting, insults, insinuations and name-calling, and rather embrace unity, surely the party will win power in 2028.

2028 Campaign Message

According to Nana Akufo-Addo, his government and that of former President John Agyekum Kufuor performed exceptionally well during their separate tenures in political office, therefore, the NPP has a superior campaign message to win the 2028 elections.

“The NPP’s works in government during my tenure and former President Kufuor’s administration are countless, and whoever emerges as our flagbearer will campaign on them to win the presidential and parliamentary polls,” he noted.

The new Bantama Constituency NPP office was constructed by the sitting NPP Member of Parliament (MP) for Bantama, Asenso-Boakye, to thank the party for supporting him to reach his current status in politics.

Kufuor’s Message

Former President Kufuor, who was also present at the function, stated that the NPP should avoid internal wranglings, insults and attacks, to help deepen party peace and unity so they can wrest power from the NDC during the 2028 polls.

Sounding confident, he boldly predicted that the NPP will definitely win in 2028 presidential and parliamentary elections to save the country from bad governance, reiterating the need for the party to unite as one family.

Fires NDC

On his part, Asenso-Boakye expressed strong concern about the seeming insults and name-calling which is gradually taking centre stage in the NPP presidential race, calling for decent campaigning from the various aspirants.

“The aspirants should campaign on ideas and stop personal attacks. They should aim their attacks on President Mahama and the NDC government, who has failed to deliver on their campaign promises,” the Bantama lawmaker said.

The NDC government, he pointed out, is failing to live up to expectations, but they (NDC) are strategically planning to push the blame for their bad performance on the NPP, urging the party to unite and expose the NDC’s bad tactics.
