President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has said the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government is determined to accelerate the development of the Volta and Oti regions to win over the hearts of the people in the area.
He said whether the opposition NDC, which touts the two regions as its electoral ‘World Bank’, liked it or not, the NPP would work hard to gradually steal the hearts of the people in both regions.
The President, during his tour of the two regions which saw him commissioning, inspecting ongoing projects or cutting sod for the commencement of new ones, said at Adaklu Waya in the Adaklu District, during a durbar of the chiefs and people, that the NPP government would continue to invest, develop and support the area to prove that it has genuine commitment to improve the lives of the people in the regions.
“I heard the other day when the spokesperson of the National Democratic Congress in the Volta Region said that the Vice-President and myself were coming too often to the Volta Region and that we are trying to reap where we have not sown,” President Akufo-Addo pointed out.
The President said his administration is interested in ensuring there is equitable development of the two regions and Ghana at large, and added literally that perhaps the NDC had not heard about “a man who is determined to win a woman over.”
“Whether the NDC likes it or not, we (NPP) will continue to go to the house and go and go and go! That is what I am determined to do. I am determined to marry the people of the Volta/Oti regions,” he added.
The Paramount Chief of Adaklu, Togbe Gbogbi Atsa V, said the President had visited the area on three occasions in his short term in office and it proved that Adaklu has a place in the President’s heart.
The chief added that every visit of the President had come with a developmental agenda, making the area a beneficiary of all the laudable projects.
He commended the government for not abandoning the Community Senior High School inherited from the erstwhile government.
He said just as Adaklu had benefitted from the Planting for Food and Jobs, Free SHS, ambulance, among others, urgent attention should be put into expanding the Five District Community Water Project at Adidome in the Central Tongu District so that residents of Adaklu who have little access to safe drinking water could benefit.
He also appealed for a district hospital, a bus for the Community Day School and creation of a pasture bank to deal with invasion and destruction of their farmlands by nomadic herdsmen.
President Akufo-Addo responded to the chief that it was not going to be his last time of visiting the place to ensure things go right.
