Radio presenter, Nana Romeo, has cautioned the National Film Authority (NFA) to be careful with the government’s newly announced GH¢20 million Film Development Fund for the movie industry.

Speaking on United Showbiz on Saturday, Nana Romeo praised President John Mahama for supporting the creative arts sector, saying no previous president had made such a major move for the industry.

According to him, the fund is what the movie industry has been waiting for over the years, given constant complaints of neglect.

Despite welcoming the initiative, Nana Romeo warned that the fund could become a problem if it is not managed properly.

He explained that many people would closely monitor how the money is used and expect positive results from it.

“If the money is not utilised properly, people will say it has been wasted and they will ask for accountability,” he said.

Nana Romeo further described the fund as “a trap,” stressing that it should not be seen as free money but something that must be used wisely.

He also advised NFA Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Kafui Danku, and her Deputy, James Gardiner, to be very careful about the filmmakers who receive financial support.

According to him, giving the money to irresponsible filmmakers could create serious problems for the authority in the future.

He added that the government is serious about recovering wasted public funds, and the NFA must ensure proper supervision and accountability in managing the fund.
