Bryan Acheampong, the Minister of State in charge of National Security, has claimed that the then Mahama-led National Democratic Congress (NDC) government used taxpayers’ money meant for the building of hospitals for an NDC research.
Mr. Acheampong, who doubles as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Abetifi Kwahu in the Eastern Region, said the Mahama administration spent about $6 million that was to be used to construct hospitals at Abetifi, to conduct a political survey prior to the 2016 general elections.
He said when the NPP government assumed office, the contracts to build some district hospitals had already been awarded by the Mahama government and the British government was funding it and Abetifi was part of it.
He said “a portion of the funding went into things that were not related to the construction of the hospitals.They spent the money on unrelated things.”
He said both the Ghana and British governments decided to do their own investigations and found out that the NDC used the money for things outside the construction of the hospitals.
He said the Akufo-Addo government would do its best to provide funding for the completion of the hospital at Abetifi to serve the public.
The District Chief Executive (DCE) of Kwahu East, Isaac Agyapong, on his part, said the assembly was undertaking numerous developmental projects including school blocks especially in the remote communities in the district.
Mr. Agyapong said they had been able to maintain 100 km feeder roads in the area and constructed a number of covert on selected roads. Besides, he said they had been able to construct close to about 100 out of 120 mechanized boreholes.
He said they had also supported about 2,000 farmers in the area with farming inputs and subsidized fertilizer.
