NDC Fails To Stop Voter Registration, Mobilises Young Voters To Register

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is urging all eligible voters to register despite their recent lawsuit against the Electoral Commission (EC), according to a statement from the party’s National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah.

The NDC announced a change in date for their planned protest against the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, citing the limited voter registration exercise as the reason for the change.

The registration exercise will take place from September 12 to October 2, and the protest will now be held on October 3. The NDC is urging eligible voters to take advantage of the registration period and get their names on the voter’s register.

The party plans to mobilize their supporters for the protest after the registration exercise.
The NDC, along with four other political parties, recently filed a lawsuit against the EC over the decision to hold the registration at district offices instead of in all electoral areas.

“By this change, we are also urging all eligible voters to avail themselves of the opportunity to get their names onto the Voters Register,” Mr Asiedu Nketiah stated.

It added that after the registration exercise, “we shall mobilise our teeming supporters to join in the demonstration against the rot and corruption that has eaten deep into the management of the central bank”.

This comes after the NDC a few days ago led some four political parties to file a suit at the Supreme Court against the decision by the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) to have the registration at its district offices.

The opposition parties want the exercise to be done in all electoral areas.
