NDC Supporters Vandalise Party HQ

A scene during yesterday’s mayhem

The National Headquarters of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) was yesterday afternoon literally turned upside down following an attack of the place by a horde of angry-looking party supporters.

The attack left in its trail broken glasses and damage property.

Information gathered by DAILY GUIDE indicates that the party supporters were on a mission to vent their anger over the disqualification of a certain candidate for the Odododiodio Constituency in the Greater Accra Region. Michael Nii Yarboi had his hopes of contesting the constituency as a candidate dashed when he was disqualified by the party’s vetting committee.

The move did not go down well with the candidate and his supporters, whose response was what unfolded the part of Adabraka in Accra where the plush headquarters of the party is located.

For those who witnessed pictures and videos of the party supporters who brandished assortment of weapons when they went to the residence of the flagbearer of the party, John Dramani Mahama to undertake a cleanup exercise, the resemblance between the two scenes was striking.

The destructive supporters of Michael Nii Yarboi, the disqualified aspiring parliamentary candidate in the Odododiodio Constituency, were in no mood for calming down until their mission was accomplished.

As they continued the rampage, residents and workers in the nearby houses and offices feasted their eyes with the unfolding drama.

Motorists however endured the inconveniences of being patient, so their vehicles did not suffer damages from the resultant rampage.

The garbage heaped on the façade of the headquarters was akin to the shit-bombing days of NDC politics when human faecal matter was dumped on the premises of some newspaper houses.

Some of the supporters hurled bricks at the glassy parts of the headquarters for maximum damage.

It would appear that the Functional Executive Committee’s (FEC) statement yesterday disqualifying Michael Nii Yarboi from contesting in the party’s upcoming parliamentary primary in the Odododiodio Constituency triggered the mayhem.

The decision to disqualify Michael Nii Yarboi was premised on a report submitted by the Special Committee assigned to investigate the violence that occurred at Odododiodio Constituency during the vetting of parliamentary aspirants held on October 13, 2023.

Some of the rampaging supporters said they want an MP called ‘Don’, but who has been knocked out of the race.

The person, they claimed, has been engaged in philanthropic work in the community as evidenced in his sponsorship of students in various levels of education.

The police intervened to restore normalcy but not before the destruction caused by the incensed party supporters.

The opposition party is credited with a chain of undisciplined conduct in recent times, some of which had journalists caught in the crossfire.
