NDC Tema West Boils Over ‘Unqualified’ Candidate

Wakefield Ackuaku

Tension is mounting in the Tema West Branch of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Greater Accra Region over attempts to falsify documents to impose an ‘unqualified’ parliamentary candidate on the members.

Some aggrieved branch executives in the constituency have raised red flags over what they claim is the continuous disregard of attempts by some party elders and members to help one Wakefield Ackuaku, an actor, to contest for position through unlawful means.

A statement issued by Concerned Democrats of NDC and copied to DAILY GUIDE stated that Mr. Ackuacku is not a resident of Tema West and therefore cannot contest the party’s parliamentary primaries there.

“One candidate Wakefield Ackuaku and his likes are aiming to misrepresent him during the vetting. A quick one; Wakefield is a resident of Osu-Klottey, who dashed to Tema West with the intention of contesting the parliamentary seat but unfortunately for him the odds are against him,” the group claimed.

Joe Kwei, convener of the group alleged in interview with DAILY GUIDE that some party elders intend to falsify and backdate Tema West branch membership card for Mr. Ackuaku, adding that “we, the concerned democrats of NDC, will not turn a blind eye to this malpractice should the need arise.”

He appealed to the Greater Accra Regional Chairman, Ade Coker and the Vetting Committee to enforce the amendment of the party’s constitution to curb any mishaps that would give ammunition to their arch opponents the NPP to ridicule them.

Secretary of the group, David Aidoo said: “Wakefield must not only be disqualified if deemed to have forged a branch membership card but his cohorts must be reprimanded as well.”

Information available to DAILY GUIDE indicates that apart from Mr. Ackuaku, the NDC primaries in Tema West would be fiercely contested by Romeo Elikplim Akahoho, Rashid Isah, Dr. Tufuor Raphael and Kwasi Sarpong.
