The unveiling ceremony, held at the Holiday Inn in Accra, attracted high-profile personalities, including gospel artistes from some of African countries, gospel music producers and artiste managers.
Ghana received 79 nominations, with 2017 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) winner Joe Mettle receiving 10 nominations. Nigeria followed suit with 75 nominations. Dr. Tumi from South Africa also received six nominations.
Other gospel artistes who received nominations for various categories include Nathaniel Bassey, Tim Godfrey (Nigeria), Frank Edwards (Nigeria), Sonnie Badu (Ghana), among others.
Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of AGAFEST, Prince Mackay, announced that the awards ceremony, which is on the theme: ‘Africa Under One God’, will take place at the Fantasy Dome, Trade Fair on March 8.
He said this year’s event will witness live performances from some of the nominees and special guest artistes from Ghana, Nigeria and South Africa.
According to him, AGAFEST is aimed at celebrating and rewarding hardworking gospel artistes across Africa, as well as bringing legends and artistes in the gospel circles all across the African continent together on one platform.
He added that AGAFEST has been set up with a credible board to ensure that living artistes are honoured and to help inspire the unearthing of more gospel talents.
