NPP Flagbearer Race: It’s A Bawumia Win • Delegates Go For Consistency, Experience

A growing consensus is taking shape within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) around the need for consistency, experience, emotional intelligence and practical, results-oriented ideas, as the party goes into tomorrow’s presidential primary to choose a flagbearer for the 2028 general election.

According to the campaign team of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, this emerging agreement among delegates nationwide strongly favours the former Vice President, who is widely regarded as the most prepared, most visible and most dependable candidate on the ballot.

The Bawumia Campaign Team said interactions with delegates across the country reveal a recurring emphasis on consistency as a political virtue that has repeatedly paid dividends in Ghana’s democratic journey.

In the view of delegates, the campaign noted, consistency goes beyond mere persistence and reflects conviction, resilience and long-term commitment to national leadership.

To support their position, the delegates pointed to the nation’s political history, noting that former President John Agyekum Kufuor contested and lost in 1996 before winning the presidency in 2000.

Similarly, the late President John Evans Atta Mills was presented twice before eventually securing victory.

The Bawumia Campaign Team further indicated that delegates also referenced former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who won the presidency on his third attempt, while President John Dramani Mahama likewise emerged victorious after being presented more than once.

Against this backdrop, delegates argued that the party faces a simple question: why disrupt a proven path?

Dr. Bawumia, they said, represents continuity anchored in experience, and there is no compelling justification to abandon that trajectory at this critical stage of the party’s rebuilding process.

Beyond consistency, delegates reportedly argued that none of the other contenders matches Dr. Bawumia’s depth of experience and national exposure.

They described the former Vice President as a well-marketed candidate whose name resonates across political, regional and generational divides.

From sustained grassroots engagement to a strong media presence, delegates noted that his message has been widely tested nationwide, making him easy to market in a general election.

His eight-year tenure as Vice President featured prominently in delegates’ assessments, the Campaign Team revealed, adding that many credited Dr. Bawumia with redefining the role of the vice presidency, particularly through his leadership in the country’s digitisation drive.

According to the Campaign Team, delegates said initiatives undertaken under Dr. Bawumia’s stewardship have simplified everyday life, improved public service delivery, added value to businesses and positioned Ghana as a leader in digital innovation.

Delegates also pointed to recent economic stabilisation efforts, attributing significant impact to policy interventions associated with Dr. Bawumia, including the Gold for Reserves programme, which they believe has contributed meaningfully to currency stability and broader macroeconomic recovery.
