The Late Baffuor Osei Akoto, a former Chief Linguist of the Asantehene
THE ASHANTI Regional branch of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has decided to name its party headquarters after the late Chief Linguist of the Asantehene, Baffuor Osei Akoto.
The soon-to-be-constructed party headquarters is being named after the traditional leader in memory of his great sacrifices for the UP tradition, from which the NPP was carved.
The idea of naming the party’s headquarters after the traditional leader was mooted by the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, affectionately called ‘Wontumi’.
There will be a mammoth party event in Kumasi on Thursday, April 19, where the ground-breaking ceremony would be performed to pave way for the construction of party’s Ashanti Regional headquarters.
Party gurus such as the Second Lady, Samira Bawumia, the Chief of Staff, Frema Opare, acting NPP National Chairman, Freddie Blay and other party bigwigs across the country would be in attendance.
Others expected to attend are the Majority Leader in Parliament, Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, NPP Members of Parliament (MPs), powerful Asante traditional leaders, among others.
Wontumi, who wanted to retain his position as the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, facilitated the construction of the edifice and he is being supported by the Agric Nzemahene, Nana Nkansah Boadu Ayeboafo.
Baffuor Akoto is the biological father of the present Minister of Agric, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto. The late traditional leader sacrificed his resources, time and life to champion the UP tradition some decades ago.
Wontumi told DAILY GUIDE during an exclusive interview that it is important that the great traditional leader is honoured by naming the party’s regional headquarters after him for his good works.
According to him, the naming of the Ashanti Regional NPP Headquarters after Baffuor Akoto would also serve as a huge motivation for other party members to sacrifice their lives and resources for the party.
