A former National Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Peter Mac Manu, has stated that even though the party is poised to win the 2020 general elections, members must work extra hard to achieve it.
He explained that the party under President Akufo-Addo has achieved significant successes in government but members of the NPP should not take things for granted.
“We worked hard to ensure victory for the party in 2016, but let us work extra hard to maintain and sustain the momentum to ensure the NPP retain power in 2020,” he indicated.
The former Western Regional Chairman of the NPP disclosed this at the commissioning of a new office of the NPP in Takoradi ahead of the 2020 polls.
The ceremony was graced by the National Chairman of the NPP, Freddie Blay, some Western Regional executives of the party and hundreds of NPP supporters, who defied a downpour and thronged the venue in their numbers.
Mr. Mac Manu commended the Member of Parliament (MP) for Takoradi, who doubles as the Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah for the initiative.
He pointed out that the new edifice should motivate the young activists in the party to do more for NPP.
“Your MP is an energetic young man who has been able to build this for the party”.
“I, therefore, admonished all party faithful, particularly the young ones, to work in unison to retain the party in power in the 2020 elections,” he added.
He revealed that “the elderly in the party should mentor the young ones to know what the NPP stands for, its values, as well as the policies and programmes of the president”.
“We, the old ones, have gone through the mill and so it’s important we impact what we have learnt into the young ones,” he added.

Mr. Blay also praised the Takoradi MP for the initiative and called on other constituencies to emulate the example.
He called on the members of the party in the region to continue to support the regional minister to do more for the party in the region and beyond.
The Western Regional Minister, Darko-Mensah disclosed that he would collaborate with the regional chairman of the party to construct a new NPP Regional office by the year 2020.
He added that the government would soon commence the construction of the first interchange in the region at Kwame Nkrumah Roundabout in Takoradi.
“The kokompe-Adakope Road would be constructed very soon, as well as a new market at the Takoradi Market Circle,” he disclosed.
He said “The people of Sekondi-Takoradi and Effia Kwesimintsim have supported the NPP for long and deserve to have their fair share of the national cake.”
