NPP Retains Kumawu Parliamentary Seat With Huge Margin

The ruling New Patriotic Party, NPP has retained the Sekyere–Kumawu Constituency by-election with huge margin against the opposition National Democratic Congress.

Provisional results from the 75 Polling stations placed the Parliamentary candidate of the NPP, Ernest Yaw Anim far ahead with over 70% of the votes.

The NPP secured a total of 15,264 of the valid votes cast whereas the NDC’s candidate polled 3723.

The first independent candidate Kwaku Duah managed 2,478 votes while the second independent candidate, Kwaku Duah had 62votes.
The by-election was necessitated after the Member of Parliament for the area, Philip Basoah passed on in March 2023 after a short illness.
The polls so far have been described as largely peaceful despite accusations of vote-buying leveled against the NPP by the NDC.
The parliamentary candidates included: Akwasi Amankwaa popularly known as ‘Tom Cee’, of the NDC, Ernest Yaw Anim of the NPP, and the two independent candidates both with the same name, Kwaku Duah.

The Police mounted a heavy security presence at the Kumawu Presbyterian Church where the Electoral Commission was collating the results.
