The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) is billed to hold Parliamentary primaries to elect parliamentary candidates for the 2020 general elections in constituencies across the country where it does not have sitting Members of Parliament (MP).
According to the NPP in a statement issued by its General Secretary, John Boadu, the elections in the orphan constituencies are scheduled for September 28, 2019.
However, it said the parliamentary primaries in respect of constituencies where the party has sitting MPs has been deferred to a later date.
The statement observed that “these decisions were arrived at by the Party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) pursuant to Article 12 of the Party’s Constitution at its meeting held Monday, July 1, 2019, at the Alisa Hotel, Accra.”
It added that “the Party’s National Council which met after the NEC meeting at the same venue, decided, in pursuant to Article 13 of the Party’s Constitution to hold Presidential primaries sometime early next year.”
