NPP Vets Aspirants Today

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is veting aspirants seeking election to occupy National Executive positions in the party.

The vetting is scheduled from today, Friday June 17 to Monday June 20, 2022 at the party’s Kokomlemle office in Accra.

A statement issued by the party and signed by the Director of Elections & Secretary to the Vetting Committee, Evans Nimako, said vetting starts at 9am each day.

At least 50 individuals are to be vetted for the party’s national executive slots ahead of elections at a national delegates’ conference to be held at the Accra Sports Stadium from July 15 to July 17, 2022.

The National Council of the Party, released Rules and Regulations and Time Table for conduct of the election of its National Officers.

It further said the Conference is in accordance with Article 10 Clause (2) of the NPP Constitution which provides that, the Party’s National Annual Delegates Conference shall meet to elect National Officers, as well as Article 18 on Guidelines for the operations of the Party at all levels.

The Party’s National Council, at its meeting on May 12, 2022 approved Rules and Regulations for the process.

Pursuant to Section17(2) of the Political Parties Law, Act 574, which provides that the election of National, Regional and Constituency Officers of every political party be conducted under the supervision of the Electoral Commission, the National Elections shall be supervised by the Electoral Commission of Ghana.

All election-related processes shall be organized and superintended over by a 9-member National Elections Committee headed by Peter Mac Manu, a former chairman.

In line with Article 10(2)(3) of the Party’s Constitution, the National Annual Delegates Conference shall be attended by all Members of the National Council, National Executive Committee, Regional Executive Committees, Constituency Executive Committees among others.

The presence of at least one-third of the delegates are needed to constitute a quorum of the Conference.

The statement further stated that a Prospective Candidate shall be a registered voter and shall be required to produce his/her Biometric Voter ID Card issued by the Electoral Commission.

A Prospective Candidate shall be a known and active member of the Party in good standing for at least five (5) years.

Candidates for any of the National Officers position shall be nominated by one (1) member of the Party’s National Council and seconded by twenty (20) known and active registered members of the Party. All the seconders shall be in good standing.

Three passport-sized photographs shall accompany each Nomination Form.
