THE DIRECTOR of Communications of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has survived a near-gory road accident.

The NPP official, reportedly, rammed his vehicle into an articulator truck at Aduapompo near Konongo on the main Kumasi-Accra Highway on Friday night.

According to reports, Ahiagbah sustained injuries after the crash and was rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi by some Good Samaritans.

Checks by DAILY GUIDE indicated that the NPP Communications Director was instantly admitted at the hospital, where he is still receiving treatment.

The exact cause of the accident was not immediately known as the authorities concerned, including the police, were still investigating when the story was being filed on Sunday.

However, some eyewitnesses alleged that they suspected fatigue on the part of Ahiagbah, who was said to be driving alone to Kumasi for official party work.

They said it’s likely that Ahiagbah fell asleep whilst driving around 1:30am on the busy road and crashed his car into the articulator truck from the opposite lane.

Meanwhile, Ahiagbah’s vehicle has been damaged beyond recognition, and has since been towed away to the police station as investigations into the crash continue.

Reports indicate that the occupants of the truck had no visible injuries.

In a related development, the NPP General Secretary, Justin Kodua, who has since visited Ahiagbah at the hospital, has disclosed that his colleague is doing well.

“Earlier today, I visited Mr. Richard Ahiagbah, the party’s Communications Director, at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) following an accident he had on his way to Kumasi for a party programme.

“Mr. Ahiagbah is in stable condition and is responding positively to treatment,” Justin Kodua wrote on his Facebook wall, with a picture he took with Ahiagbah on his hospital bed.

On behalf of Ahiagbah and the NPP, he thanked well-wishers for their support and fervent prayers for the NPP Communications Director since the crash occurred.

Justin Kodua, however, said doctors have advised that people who visit Ahiagbah should be limited in order to ensure that he has adequate rest and recover soon.
