Persons suspected to be National Security operatives have reportedly whisked away a Senior Nursing Officer around midnight of last Sunday in Techiman, in the Bono East Region.
Ms. Salomay Bafoh Awiti, whose husband is said to be abroad, was expected to chair a staff meeting at the Abrefi Hospital but when she was not showing up, the engagement was called off.
A colleague at the hospital said her family later disclosed how she was whisked away to an unknown destination, describing her as a lady with calm demeanour. Her only association with social media, he said, was when she displayed her wares for sale on WhatsApp.
A nephew of hers who saw what happened said her abductors were National Security operatives.
Although the reason behind her arrest was not disclosed, her colleague said she is suspected of being Ghana Jollof, the lady behind social media political vitriolic in recent times.
Even as she is being held, the Ghana Jollof page continues to be transmitted, making the claim that she is behind the videos questionable.
Her family has told the hospital authorities that they suspect she might have been taken to Accra for quizzing.
Her arrest adds to the series of political arrests originating from social media posts.
A certain Afia Royal was recently arrested over the Ghana Jollof series because security personnel thought she could be a source of information about the whereabouts of the source of the series.
In recent times, the issue of arrests of persons suspected to be behind social media posts has attracted political commentaries which accuse government of stifling free speech.
The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) embarked upon a massive demonstration on the subject recently.
Watchers of the political plane claim that the Ghana Jollof series are responses to Kevin Taylor, who has been active hurling invectives to opponents of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Some known persons have called for cessation of the insults between the NDC aligned man resident in the US and Ghana Jollof, whose exact location is yet to be determined although many claims she lives out of Ghanaian jurisdiction, politically Canada.
Meanwhile, fear and panic has gripped Ms. Awiti’s colleagues as they do not know who next could be arrested and described as Ghana Jollof.
