Suspected armed robbers, who purportedly laid ambush along the Mpohor road near the Awonakrom School Junction in the Mpohor District of the Western Region, have shot and killed a nurse and motorcycle or ‘okada’ rider.
The unfortunate incident happened last Thursday evening.
According to information gathered, the robbers were targeting a gold dealer who was travelling on the road to Tarkwa to sell gold.
The robbers were therefore waiting to attack and rob the gold dealer at about 8:00 p.m. last Thursday.
Some residents disclosed that while the robbers were waiting for their target, suddenly they began to fire indiscriminately at passing motorbikes and vehicles.
The okada rider, identified as Kwame Anumde, was shot and killed instantly while he was riding around the area.
The next victim, Benjamin Peprah, a resident of Mpohor and a nurse, was also reportedly shot while driving through the area. He also died on the spot.
The alleged armed robbers fled the scene after the incident.
A member of the Mpohor-Fiase Okada Association, Nana Andoh, confirmed the killing of the rider to journalists.
He said, “On that night, at the Awonakrom School Junction, one of our members, known as Kwame Anumde, was shot dead by armed robbers.”
“We gathered that the robbers had laid ambush on the road and were shooting at anyone who passed by. Unfortunately, our member was hit and died instantly,” he pointed out.
He told journalists that the incident has since been reported to the police and investigations into the incident had commenced.
