#OccupyBoG Demo Underway

 

Protesters are converging at Obra Spot at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra for #OccupyBoGdemo being organized by the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the Minority caucus in Parliament.

The group chanting and holding placards with inscriptions such as “BoG Must Go”, “Stop The Rot At BoG” and “We Want Our Money Back”. The protesters have gathered to express their displeasure with the current leadership of the Bank of Ghana.

The demonstration has caused heavy traffic around the Kwame Nkrumah Circle, with some commuters being forced to find alternative routes.

The police presence in the area has been increased to ensure the safety of both protesters and pedestrians.

NDC and the Minority caucus in Parliament have expressed their support for the demonstration.

According to the leaders, the call for the resignation of the BoG Governor and his two deputies is necessary to restore public trust in the Central Bank.

In response to the protest, the Bank of Ghana has released a statement assuring the public that they remain committed to their mandate of ensuring financial stability in the country. The statement also highlighted the various initiatives put in place to improve accountability and transparency within the organization.

The #OccupyBoGdemo is expected to continue throughout the day as the protesters maintain their demand for the removal of the current BoG leadership.
