The Ghanaian diaspora community with an estimated 3 million Ghanaians spread across the United States, the United Kingdom, and many other nations around the world have launched the Oman Ghana Baako (OGB) Ride Application.
The OGB Ride Application is for drivers in Greater Accra and Kumasi, who want to make some money providing safe and reliable rides whilst offering financial relief to customers.
Speaking at a press launch in Accra, OGB Chairman, Alex Appiah, said the ride app provides the best quality of services at a low cost to reduce the high transport fares brought on by the most recent increase in fuel prices.
“The overnight increase of transport fares has been a lot of burden for commuters of public transport. OGB ride will provide a stable transport fare to customers “.
“With OGB Ride you can request a ride-hailing or delivery online with your smartphone in just a few seconds, and a couple of taps. The app uses the most up-to-date GPS technology to directly connect”.
He added that the launch of the ride app is not to make a profit or compete with other digital transport companies in the country but to use proceeds from the business to support Ghana’s development in the sector of Agriculture, health, education, roads, and many more.
“With the good intention, the diasporans have about Ghana’s development and the growing concerns of illegal migrations of our citizens who mostly die at the Mediterranean Sea in search of greener pasture we hope this ride app will solve issues of unemployment “ (sic) he added.
Country Head of OGB Qatar, Eric Ocran, indicated that the drivers are selected and trained thoroughly, arriving on time. The help of a rating system, helps drivers ensure to provide the best possible services to customers.
“We appreciate the huge financial burden on our customers concerning transportation, especially in these difficult times and thus we have decided to offer them some relief such as a 20 per cent discount for the passenger while OGB drivers also receive 85 per cent for their services, “ he added.
Head of Communication, Francis Acquah, called on Ghanaians to patronize the OGB Ride Application to support youth employment and community development, adding, ‘this OGB ride service is a Ghanaian-owned digital transport agency outdoors to help cherish Ghanaians in this dire economic situation.’
