Over 300 people, including a 95-year-old woman, have been rendered homeless after a rainstorm hit Nyambong, a farming community in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the newly created Oti Region.
The rainstorm, which occurred last Thursday, destroyed most houses in the area.
It also destroyed sheds, huts and other items of the inhabitants.
The Chief of Nyambong, Nana ObiakoAkoula II, who led a team comprising the Unit Committee and the Assembly member to the affected areas, said many of his people, especially women and children, have been rendered homeless.
Most of the families with school-children are calling on the public and other benefactors to come to their aid.
Nana Akoula also appealed to the Nkwanta South Municipal Assembly, the Municipal Office of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and philanthropists to help the victims.
The Assembly member, Anthony Kwame Badu, was optimistic the Deputy Oti Regional Minister-designate, Maxwell Blagodzi, will be appraised about the situation for swift action.
The Municipal NADMO Officer, Abajene Marcillinus, who also took his team round to assess the extent of damage, said his outfit will soon put together the estimated cost of the damage and provide relief items to the affected persons.
Otorbuetan Agyaru, 95 who is among those currently putting up with friends and relatives, also pleaded with all and sundry to help her repair her building.
The other victims also called for support to fend for themselves and their families.
After visiting Nyambong, the MCE for Nkwanta South, John Thassun, consoled the residents and promised that the assembly will soon provide relief items to them.
