P-Square
Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr. P of the iconic Nigerian music duo P-Square, has responded to allegations made by his brother Paul Okoye, also known as Rudeboy, regarding the group’s recent split.
The tension between the brothers resurfaced following an interview Rudeboy gave to City FM, Lagos, in which he confirmed their second separation, and claimed that Mr. P was no longer interested in continuing with the group.
In the interview, Rudeboy suggested that they had differing visions for their music and expressed disappointment that their comeback attempt had fallen short of expectations.
He emphasised that he wanted their reunion to succeed but felt that history was repeating itself.
In a pointed response via Instagram, Mr. P accused his brother of consistently undermining his contributions to P-Square.
He lamented that instead of working together to reclaim their place as one of Africa’s most celebrated music groups, Rudeboy had turned the group into a “laughingstock.”
“My brother, neither of us is the most talented artiste in the world, but you fail to understand that God gave us this talent and even granted us another chance to excel after our last breakup. Instead, you chose to turn the most awarded and decorated music group in Africa into a laughingstock again,” Mr. P wrote.
He further accused Rudeboy of teaming up with their elder brother, Jude Okoye, who previously managed the group, to marginalise and humiliate him.
Mr. P questioned whether their solo careers have achieved the same level of success they enjoyed together as P-Square, pointing out that neither has managed to sell out arenas, and top music charts, or command large crowds in the way they once did.
“So, my brother, let me ask you: Is Rudeboy or Mr. P bigger and more successful than P-Square today? Are we individually selling out arenas and stadiums like P-SQUARE used to? Are we topping world music charts with our songs as solo artists? Do we command crowds and entertain massive audiences like P-SQUARE?” he added.
Mr. P expressed that he has remained silent for too long but will no longer hold back in addressing the issues between them.
He also hinted at addressing more personal matters, including Rudeboy’s recent encounter with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), shortly.
This latest exchange between the Okoye brothers highlights the ongoing tension that has plagued the duo who were once among Africa’s most successful music acts.
Fans of P-Square continue to hope for a resolution that will see the brothers reunite and reclaim their former glory.
