Packed Activities As Parliament Resumes Today

 

Parliament resumes today under the shadow of the $3 billion International Monetary Fund (IMF) assistance programme, with MPs returning to the fray reinvigorated, after a two-month break.

The agenda will be dominated by debates on the specifics of mega-bills and regulations to be presented by the Ministries of Finance, Health, and Education, as well as the mid-year Fiscal Policy Review of the 2023 Budget Statement and Economic Policy.

Majority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, who gave the hint, said the Ministry of Finance had scheduled a presentation in Parliament for consideration of five financial regulations.

These are Customs (Amendment) Act, Revenue Administration Regulations, 2023, Income Tax (Amendment) Regulations, VAT (Amendment) Regulations, and Insurance Regulations, 2023.

According to him, the Ministry of Health is scheduled to present five bills as Parliament resumes, and mentioned them as the Ghana Red Cross Society Bill, Traditional & Alternative Medicine Bill, Health Security Bill, Assisted Reproductive Technology Bill, and Health Professions Regulatory Bodies Bill.

He added that the Ministry of Education would also present some bills & regulations, and named them as the Ghana Book Development Agency Bill, Ghana National Service Authority Bill, Ghana Library Service Bill, and the Institute of Directors, Ghana Bill among others.

The MPs went on a recess on March 31, 2023 and they are being recalled for the Second Meeting of the Third Session of the Eighth Parliament.

The House will commence proceedings at 10 o’clock in the forenoon, the Speaker of Parliament, Alban S.K. Bagbin said in a notice.
