MAJORITY CHIEF Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, has stated that the leadership of Parliament is in discussions with the Minister of Finance to find an appropriate date for the presentation of the mid-year review of the 2022 Budget.
The review will capture the Budget Statement and Economic Policy of the Government and Supplementary Estimate for the 2022 financial year pursuant to the Public Financial Management Act, 2016 (Act 921).
Presenting the Business Statement for the sixth week ending Friday, July 1, 2022, on behalf of the Majority Leader, Mr. Annoh-Dompreh said members of the House would be duly informed on the date the minister will present the mid-year review of the budget.
He added that there was an ongoing consultation with the Minister of Communications and Digitalisation for the National Identification Authority (NIA) to attend upon the House, to brief members on the challenges the authority is facing regarding the printing and issuance of the ECOWAS Identity Card “also known as the Ghana Card” to the citizenry.
He continued that the leadership was also “firming up discussions with the Minister for National Security to brief Parliament at a close sitting on matters pertaining to the security of the State.”
According to him, this is at the instance of the recent spate of incipient terrorist attacks within the West African sub-region.
“The specific day for the briefing would be communicated to Hon. Members during the ensuing week,” he noted, and added that similar discussions would be made with the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, to brief the House on the compensation package by government for poultry farmers impacted by outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza in 2021.
“The appropriate date for the briefing would be communicated to Hon. Members in the course of the ensuing week,” he intimated.
Mr. Annoh-Dompreh concluded that these issues would form part of the order in which the Business of the House shall be taken during the week, in accordance with Standing Order 160 (2) and subject to Standing Order 53.
