Patapaa Trolled Over TV3 Goes Off VGMAs Loss & Outfit

Patapaa

Although many had tipped him to win the most popular song of the year at Saturday’s Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs), Patapaa unfortunately left the 2018 VGMAs without an award.

But he has said he is not worried because “heaven knows best.”

The Agona Swedru musician’s ‘One Corner’ viral song and its accompanying dance became very popular after it was performed at the Agona Swedru Akwambo Festival last year.

Since then, the song and the dance had created several controversies, with people, including pastors and prophets, calling for it to be banned as it affects the society’s morals. It also went on to get international recognition, with other nationals trying to do the dance.

As a result, many had thought Patapaa would win the popular song of the year award, but he unfortunately lost to Fancy Gadam, who won with the song ‘Totally Cheat’ featuring Sarkodie.

Before the winner was announced at the award’s event, the audience chanted Patapaa’s name; displaying they expected him to win the award but that didn’t change anything.

“God’s time is the best. Everything happens for a reason. Heaven knows I tried my best,” Patapaa said on Twitter.

He was Saturday night trolled on social media over his outfit on the VGMAs red carpet and also for not winning an award.

“Congrats to my man .. Patapaa.. in da (the) hearts of da (the) people u (you) are da (the) winner .. most popular song of da (the) year .. one corner ..  ur (your) new name is PATAPIZZZY ..we branding you for Grammy and BET,” Funny Face said on Twitter after the awards.

“Even Patapaa in ‘One Corner’ song is popular than the Fancy Gadem him sef  (self).. Fact,” Hitz FM‘s Dr Pound also posted on Twitter.

“Hello #VGMA2018, if you think Patapaa’s trousers will be a disgrace on stage so you’re thinking twice about his award, please we will go and change. We have another attire in our corolla at the car park. Please we beg,” one Saddick Adams also tweeted.

The 2018 edition of the VGMAs was held at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC), which was hosted by John Dumelo and Berla Mundi.

The late Ebony Reigns and Joe Mettle topped the wins with four awards each. Ebony won artiste of the year, album of the year, Afro-pop song of the year and songwriter of the year for her manager, Bullet, with the song ‘Maame Hw?’.
