Police Hunt Drunk Driver At Nkoranza

THE POLICE at Nkoranza in the Brong Ahafo Region are looking for an alleged drunk driver for knocking down a motor rider, Adu Martin, on the Nkoranza-Techiman road last Saturday.

The name of the driver is yet to be established. The 30-year-old victim is said to be in a critical condition and has been hospitalized at St. Theresa’s Hospital at Nkoranza. Adu Martin was said to be riding a motorbike when the suspect, who was driving a Nissan Premiera saloon car with registration number DV 2021-2018, knocked him off the motorbike.  Allegedly, the driver was in a state of drunkenness.

Briefing DAILY GUIDE on the accident, Brong Ahafo police spokeman, Chief Inspector Augustine Kinsley Oppong, said the runaway driver was alleged to be under the influence of alcohol, and on reaching a section of the road at Breman, he lost control of the steering wheel, veered off his lane and knocked down Martin on the opposite lane. He said the accident happened last Saturday around 4:30 pm. He appealed to members of the general public especially those at Nkoranza and Techiman to volunteer information that would lead to the arrest of the driver.

In a related development the police are looking for another driver whose name is not yet known for killing two other motor riders. Their bodies have since been deposited at the Techiman Holy Family Hospital for autopsy.

Chief Inspector Kinsley Oppong explained that the second driver was in charge of a MAN Diesel cargo truck with registration number GR 508 H and carried a 20-footer container loaded with logs from Kintampo to Techiman when the accident occurred near Tano River Bridge. The police administration in the region appeals to members of the general public to volunteer information to help arrest careless drivers.
