The deceased police officers
The fatal shooting of two police officers in Zuarungu in the Upper East Region has triggered a swift deployment of crack anti-armed robbery team to the crime location to unmask the criminals.
The reaction followed the visit to the Upper East Regional Police Command by the Inspector General of Police and a promise to deal appropriately with the crime.
In a statement on the subject, the Police Administration announced that “a special anti-robbery intelligence-led operation to track down and arrest three suspected robbers who shot and killed two police officers at Zuarungu on Wednesday, December 15, 2021,” has been launched.
The statement explained that the two police officers, General Constable Emmanuel Akowuah and General Constable Adam Suley were shot when they run into the three suspected armed robbers while they were on a motorbike patrol within the township of Zuarungu.
Continuing, the statement explained that preliminary investigation suggested that the suspected armed robbers had attacked a provisions shop at gunpoint and succeeded in robbing the victim of an amount of GH¢2,000. The two police officers who coincidentally appeared at the crime scene were fatally shot at as the robbers were attempting to flee the scene.
The service motorbike being ridden by the constables at the time exploded into flames when its fuel tank was hit by a bullet from the robbers. General Adam Suley was partially burnt by ensuing flames.
