Porter Jailed 7 Years For Defilement

A porter who defiled a 13-year-old minor at Mamobi in the Greater Accra Region has been sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment by the same court.

Shamsu Sallay pleaded guilty to a charge of defiling a child under the age of 16 and was convicted on his own plea by the court presided over by Her Honour Mrs. Adjin-Doku.

His victim is said to have gone to her friend’s house in June 2017 where Sallay met her and lured her into his room and had sexual intercourse with her after which he gave her GH¢5.00.

According to the prosecution led by Chief Inspector Kofi Atimbire, the convict repeated the act on July 27, 2017. The victim’s mother saw signs of sexual assault on the victim and upon interrogation, she narrated her ordeal.

Subsequently, Sally was arrested after the matter had been reported at the Mamobi Police Station.

Appearing before the court, he confessed to having sexual intercourse with the victim in June 2017 but wondered why he was now being brought to court, so many months after the incident.

In sentencing the convict, Mrs. Adjin-Doku took into consideration the fact that he readily pleaded guilty without wasting time.

Therefore, she gave him the minimum sentence of seven years’ imprisonment in hard labour.
