The Princess of the Netherlands, Princess of Orange-Nassau and Princess of Lippe-Beisterfeld, Margriet Francisca and Dutch singer, actor and TV host, Jan Smit, have paid a visit to the Tema SOS Children’s Villages to interact and support the youth, children and vulnerable.
The visit underscores the Princess’ and the Dutch singer’s commitment to improving the lives of vulnerable population in Ghana.
Tema SOS Children’s Village is a community that provides a safe haven for vulnerable children in the country.
The Princess of the Netherlands, Margriet Francisca, who doubles as the Patron of SOS Children’s Village expressed her joy of returning to Ghana after 10 years, saying that she was impressed by the SOS Children’s Village landscape, innovative approaches and alignment with global advancements.
Notably, she said the Child’s Right Programme has seen a stand out initiative, demonstrating exceptional foresight and commitment to the well-being of the children.
“We have observed a significant impact SOS Children’s Village has on the community and we are impressed by how young people are equipped to start their own businesses with the support of SOS,” she said.
Jan Smit who is also the ambassador of the SOS Children’s Village expressed his excitement of returning to Ghana and SOS Children’s Village again, saying the Family Strengthening Programme is a crucial development to promoting entrepreneurial spirit and stable family structures.
According to him, as they have witnessed the young entrepreneurs taking their chances, it is still evident they need the support to enhance their visibility and access to resources.
He emphasised that, the young entrepreneurs have talents and skills, so they need the help to get a shop for themselves and to make them known to the public.
