PRINPAG, Peace Watch Ghana Pushv For Security Tax

PRINPAG, the Private Newspapers and Online News Publishers Association in Ghana, has entered into a partnership agreement with Peace Watch Ghana, a non-governmental organization that champions the welfare of Ghana’s police officers and police logistics.

They are lobbying for the establishment of a Special Security Tax in Ghana that will assist in raising funds to support the police service and enhancing general security in the country.

The partnership was initiated when management of the two organizations met at PRINPAG’s offices and they jointly agreed to work together in making peace a central issue for public discussion in Ghana.
Peace Watch Ghana, which has been active since 2008, is deeply interested in the welfare of the Ghana Police Service, and ensuring that people in Ghana focus on peace.

As a gesture to boost public education for peace and security, there is a proposed float on the streets of Accra, and the two organizations will collaborate to organize sensitization workshops on a district basis to bring peace and security issues to the attention of the public.

In order to ensure the success of the Special Security Tax proposal and support the proposed projects, there will be an engagement exercise with industry players to obtain their buy-ins on the proposed security tax.
The meeting also agreed to set up a joint funds raising committee.

According to PRINPAG’s President, Andrew Edwin Arthur, “the collaboration is very necessary to secure the peace of this nation,” and he is optimistic that the two bodies will succeed in promoting peace in Ghana.

Peace Watch Ghana has previously supported the Ghana Police Service by refurbishing offices, organizing awards shows to honor senior police officers, and a scheme to honor informants. PRINPAG is an Association of Publishers, Media Owners, and Senior Editors interested in the overall welfare of its members.

Present at the meeting were the Vice of PRINPAG, Michael Antwi-Agyei, National Organiser, Emmanuel Opare Gyan, Public Affairs and External Relations Officer, Jeorge Wilson Kingson, Treasurer, Fodia Amenyah, and Executive Secretary Kenteman Nii Laryea Sowah.

Also present were Patrick Biddah, William Sarpong, and Sandra Ewusie Dadzie.
