The Police amoured cars during the route match.
Police personnel have been charged to exhibit professionalism and avoid loose political talks as the 2020 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections gets closer.
They have also been asked to reduce their sexual activities in order to get more energy to work during the elections.
Addressing personnel during the route match exercise organized yesterday, the Director General in charge of Operations, DCOP Boadu Pepra said police officers are not supposed to get involved in any political activity.
“You can only do that when you enter the booth to vote and there you can exercise your power but apart from that you are not suppose to declare your support to any political party, “he said this amidst cheers from the personnel gathered.
He revealed that over 1,968 police personnel have been trained for the election and about 2000 others are on standby awaiting to be trained in addition to personnel from other sister security organizations.
“I must say that we are preparing very well for the election and as far as security is concern, we are on the grounds as always.”
The Accra Regional Police Commander, DCOP Afful Boakye Yiadom, urged them to avoid unhealthy activities as they prepare towards the election.
About 550 police personnel comprising of 50 senior police officers and 500 other ranks took part in the route match which begun around 7am.
The exercise, dubbed “Confidence Building March” is aimed at assuring the general public of the police preparedness to maintain law and order before, during, and after the December 2020 polls.
The police also displayed their resources like amoured cars, ambulances, trained dogs, and motor bikes as they paraded the streets for about four hours.
Personnel who took part in the match walked from the National Police Headquarters on the Ring Road, through Ako Adjei Interchange to the 37 Military Hospital, Obasanjo Highway, Kawukidi Roundabout, Accra Girls’ Senior Secondary School and Pig Farm, Kotobabi, Accra New Town, Nima, Kwame Nkrumah Circle, Kojo Thompson Road, Liberation Road, La Teshie Road, Danquah Circle, and then back to the National Police Headquaters.
