Ritual Murder At Sefwi Atwima

A woman suspected to be about 30 years has been beheaded at Sefwi Atwima-Sonkori New Site near Bekwai, in the Bibiani Anhwianso Bekwai Municipality of the Western North Region.

The body of the woman, yet to be identified, was discovered Wednesday morning around 9am, lying in a bush near an uncompleted building with her hands and legs tied with a rope.

She was wearing a black pair of jeans with a white blouse but without her head.

Ama Nyarkoa, a journalist with Kessben FM, told DAILY GUIDE that the body of the victim was discovered by three men contracted by the owner of the said uncompleted apartment to work on the building that fateful day.

She said residents suspect the victim might have been killed a day before the body was found.

Ms. Nyarkoa said, “The three men were contractors who fix POP ceiling.”

“According to them, they had been contracted by owner of the house to fix POP on the three-bedroom ‘self contain’ house at Atwima.

“Upon reaching the site, one of them said he had a tummy upset and decided to pass behind the building to attend nature’s call in a nearby bush, and that was when he discovered the body,” she said.

She maintained that the victim’s assassins had wanted to break into one of the rooms to keep the body, but since they were not able to have access,  they left the  body in a nearby bush close to the corridor and left.

At the corridor, she said, was a lot of blood, and that is the spot residents believe the woman was beheaded.

“Residents believe that the deceased might have followed a man to the location where she was killed,” she added.

The chief and elders of the area, she revealed, were immediately informed before the police were called to the scene.

The journalist averred that the body was later removed from the scene and sent to Bibiani Government Hospital for preservation and identification.

Meanwhile, the Sefwi Bekwai Traditional Council led by Nana Kwabena Ennin, Chief of Sefwi Nyetina, who doubles as Akyeamehene of Sefwi Bekwai Traditional Area, and on behalf of Sefwi Bekwai Omanhene, expressed deep worry about the unfortunate incident.

He called on residents to remain calm and resolute since the chiefs and the security agencies were working together to bring the perpetrators to book and also consult their gods for assistance.

Leaders of the Traditional Council yesterday wore  a black cloth and entered Nananom shrine to consult their powerful river gods called ‘anorku’ for  assistance in arresting the culprits and to pour libation to purify the area.

Led by Akyeamehene Nana Kwabena Ennin II, the leaders again visited the scene where the body was discovered to perform rituals to appease the gods for them to help arrest the criminals.

Due to this unexpected situation, the chiefs, with immediate effect, have also suspended weddings, funerals and other activities until they meet stakeholders, opinion leaders, Christians, the Muslim community and security agencies to dialogue on the issue.
