Rousing Welcome For Bawumia In Home Region

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia being led by the crowd in North East Region

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, kicked off a campaign in his home region of North East yesterday to a rousing welcome from residents, who defied an early morning downpour.

It is part of his five-day campaign tour of the five regions of the north, where he has increased community engagement through a house-to-house campaign.

Dr. Bawumia, who has had an impactful campaign since beginning his regional tour with engagements with market women, commercial drivers, and other identifiable groups, looks to be going all out to sell his vision and policies to Ghanaians.

With his house-to-house campaign, he stormed the North East Region on Monday, residents of Walewale defied the early morning downpour to offer him a mammoth reception and a grand entry into the town.

Residents led him on their motorbikes and vehicles, blowing their horns to alert people to Dr. Bawumia’s presence, halting commercial activity and vehicular traffic in the region.

Dr. Bawumia got down from his campaign bus and walked through the rain on the main street to start his engagements.

Before beginning his tour of the region, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia paid a courtesy call on the King of the Mamprugu Traditional Area, Naa Bohugu Mahami Abdulai Sherigah II, to seek his blessings.

Naa Bohugu Mahami Abdulai Sherigah II prayed and wished the NPP flagbearer success in the December general election.

“God will stand by you and grant you your heart desires in the coming elections,” Naa Bohugu stressed.

Dr. Bawumia made stops in several villages along the road to Nalerigu, where he spoke with many households and community leaders.

The campaign in the North East Region was similar to his previous visits to the Eastern, Western, Western North, Bono, Ahafo, and Bono East Regions, when he surprised several citizens by paying visits to their homes and shops to interact with them.

Dr. Bawumia’s enthusiastic and humble manner has gained him praise from Ghanaians, who hailed him for respecting the Ghanaian voters by approaching them to sell his message.

He met with Christian and Muslim clergymen in the region at Nalerigu, assuring them of his government’s commitment to implementing more policies in education, health, agriculture, infrastructure, tourism, and sports to transform the country if elected.

He maintained that a Bawumia-led government would not legalise LGBTQ+ activities in the country.

“I will say this again, my government will never allow men to marry men and women to marry women. The Bible doesn’t agree and the Quran doesn’t agree.  Also our values do not agree so it will not happen,” he stressed.

The NPP flagbearer met again with members of the Regional House of Chiefs, party leadership, and NPP parliamentary candidates, as well as touring several youth bases in the North East Region.

Gambaga Astroturf

At Gambaga in the East Mamprusi Municipality of the North East Region, the Vice President cut sod for the construction of an Astroturf.

Among other facilities, the contractor, Wembley Sports Complex, is expected to construct a standard Astroturf, a VIP stand, changing rooms, stands that can accommodate more than 1,000 people, and offices.

The Gambaga Astroturf will be the third Astroturf constructed in the North East Region, following the Walewale Astroturf and the Naa Sheriga Sports Complex, which was built as a personal commitment made by the Vice President to the youth of Nalerigu and its surrounding areas.

The NPP flagbearer told Gambaga residents at the ceremony that the project will be completed before the 2024 general election.
