Rugby League Hits Tamale

 The Rugby League Federation Ghana in association with Savannah International School (SIA) and the National Sports Authority (NSA), Tamale, is set to host a two-day introduction to Rugby League for students of SIA and PE teachers from selected schools in the region.

The workshop is aimed at promoting the spread of Rugby League as well as increasing the opportunities available for members of the community in terms of local and international participation in the sport.

This will see a lot of students and teachers coming to Savannah International School for firsthand training on the rudiments of the game from tomorrow to Friday.

“Growth for every organisation, is vital to its survival. Within this opportunity given us lays a responsibility to teach, coach and mentor and we are grateful for that,” said Jafaru Awudu Mustapha, General Manager, Rugby League Federation Ghana.

Rugby League, commonly known as footy, is a full-contact sport played by two teams of thirteen players or with a variation of nine players aside played on a rectangular field measuring 68 metres wide and 112–122 metres long. Rugby League Federation Ghana (RLFG), is the sole organisation responsible for the promotion of the game of rugby league in the country.

Savannah International Academy (SIA) is a private co-educational institution, located in Tamale, in the Northern Region. The school caters for students from age 6-18 years.

This collaboration comes in handy with the Rugby League Federation Ghana geared towards expanding the sport and opening it up in all the regions in Ghana.

The principal of the SIA,   Farouk Iliasu stated: “This comes to us with great joy, we as a school are particular with exposing our students to a wide range of sporting opportunities.”

The four-man team from the Federation led by the General Manager, Marshall Nortey -Technical Director,  Miss Hilaria Wuaku – Head of  Communications and  Alibah Riddick – Men’s Coordinator / Captain of the National Team are ready to make this initiative a success.
