Alexander Afenyo-Markin
The Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has vowed to pursue his defamation case against Sammy Gyamfi despite a High Court decision setting aside his writ over the alleged defamatory statements.
His solicitor, F. Paa Kwesi Abaidoo of Dehyena Chambers, said the legal team had instructions from the Minority Leader to pursue the matter to its logical conclusion.
In a press statement issued on October 14, 2026, the lawyer said the team was awaiting a copy of the court’s ruling to determine its next course of action.
The High Court, General Jurisdiction 1, presided over by Justice Akwasi Adjenim Boateng, set aside the writ on the grounds that the alleged defamatory words attributed to Mr. Gyamfi had not been particularised.
Mr. Abaidoo said that as of 4 p.m. yesterday, the court registry had not made a copy of the ruling available to the legal team.
He indicated that the lawyers would study the ruling before deciding on the appropriate legal steps to take.
The solicitor expressed concern over what he described as Mr. Gyamfi’s resort to procedural obstacles rather than filing a defence to the allegations.
According to him, Mr. Gyamfi had made categorical allegations against Mr. Afenyo-Markin, publicly claimed to possess evidence to substantiate them and challenged the Minority Leader to sue.
The lawyer argued that procedural irregularities could be corrected under the applicable civil procedure rules, citing Order 81 of the High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules, 2004 (C.I. 47), and relevant Supreme Court authorities.
He maintained that the legal team would not be discouraged by the court’s decision, describing it as a procedural setback.
