Rapper Sarkodie has made history as a proud first winner of Best International Flow at the 2019 BET Hip Hop Awards held in the United States of America (USA) over the weekend.

He won the category, beating competitions from top contenders such as Falz (Nigeria), Ghetts (UK), Kalash (France), Lil Simz (UK), Nasty C (South Africa), and Tory Lanez (Canada).

This is not Sarkodie’s first BET award. He had already been nominated three times in 2012, 2014 and 2015 for the BET Awards in the Best International Act category. He jointly won the award in 2012 with Nigerian musician Wizkid. The BET Hip Hop Awards is his second BET recognition, leading his fellow artistes in Ghana.

In his acceptance speech, he used the opportunity to invite the world to Ghana as part of the ‘Year of Return’ programme.

He also dedicated the award to his daughter, Adalyn Owusu Addo (Titi).

“I just want to say thank you to the almighty God. To family, this one is for my lil girl Titi…. I think Africa has always had it and it is about that time. This year is the ‘Year of Return’ and I will urge each and every one of you here to take a trip back home,” he said on the BET stage.

The 2019 BET Hip Hop Awards was held on Saturday, October 5 at the Atlanta’s Cobb Energy Center after vacationing in Miami for the last two years. The nominations were announced on September 12, 2019.

A lot of Ghanaians and entertainers took to social media to congratulate Sarkodie for making his country proud at the award.
