Special Voting Goes Smooth

A total of 109,557 out of voter population of 17,027,641 participated in the special voting by security personnel, media personnel and some workers of the Electoral Commission (EC) yesterday ahead of December 7 general elections.

The special voting exercise was held in all the 275 constituencies and it passed without any problems.

The EC assured a smooth exercise which commenced at 7:00am in almost all centres and ended at 5:00pm.

The early voters included personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces, National Intelligence Bureau, National Security, Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana National Fire Service and Information Services Department.

The rest are personnel of the National Ambulance Service, Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority, Prisons Service, Ghana Journalists Association, Ghana Police Service and National Media Commission who will all be on duty on Election Day.

At all the polling stations visited all the Covid-19 safety protocols were strictly adhered to and the political party agents of the two major parties—NPP and NDC—were present.

According to the Western Regional Director of the EC, Angelina Tagoe, in all 5,390 voters took part in the special voting at the 17 designated polling stations in the region.

At the Christ the King Parish Hall polling centre in the Effia Constituency, 357 voters were expected to cast their ballot and as at 10:13am, 157 of them had voted, according to the presiding officer, Clement Afranie.

In the Kwesimintsim Constituency, the exercise took place at the St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church where the presiding officer, Charles Kumordji, indicated that 413 people were expected to vote and as at 9:00am, 130 voters had cast their ballot.

In the Sekondi Constituency, the special voting exercise took place at the Methodist Park and the total number of voters expected was 808 and as at 7:25am, 89 of them had voted.

At the Police Canteen polling centre ‘A’ in the Takoradi Constituency, 402 people were expected to cast their ballot but as at 12:41pm, 222 of them had voted.

At the polling centre ‘B’ 401 voters were also expected to cast their ballot but as at 12:47pm, 205 of the voters had cast their ballot.

According to the presiding officer, Listowel Asare, nine people could not find their names in the register and said however that they would be able to vote on December 7.

In the Ahanta West Constituency where the exercise took place at the Municipal Assembly Hall polling centre, expected voters were 325. Voting started at 7:00am and as at 9:40am about 87 had voted.

In the Upper West Region, as at 10:30 am, a total of 235 out of the 385 voters at the Tumu Police Station in the Sissala East had cast their ballots.

A calm atmosphere was reported from all the regions.
