Emmanuel Awuku in police custody
The Accra Regional police have arrested a former branch manager of Star Oil Company for allegedly recruiting a gang of armed robbers to attack his former company.
Emmanuel Awuku, 30, according to police reports, had recruited two suspected armed robbers from Accra to assist him to attack the Awisiwusi branch of Star Oil, where he was the branch manager, but was sacked for unknown reasons.
His plans were foiled when police had information of the plot and apprehended him.
Three locally made pistols – one reportedly hidden in his pelvic area – a jack knife and other offensive weapons were recovered from him upon a search.
Confirming the story to DAILY GUIDE, ASP Effia Tenge, the Accra Regional Police Public Relations Officer, said Awuku was arrested at about 4am yesterday at a spot close to Awisiwusi, near Nkawkaw in the Eastern Region.
According to the police officer, knowing that management normally keep weekend and holiday sales at the branch’s office before taking the money to the bank, Emmanuel Awuku, allegedly rushed to Accra to recruit the two other suspects to attack the security personnel at the Awisiwisi branch.
During the said meeting Awuku purportedly told the suspects to meet him at a spot close to the filling station and that he would wait for them with the weapons.
Unknown to them, the police had information of their plot and also laid ambush at the said spot waiting for them.
Around 4am yesterday, Emmanuel Awuku arrived at the scene with the weapons concealed in a bag and waiting for his accomplices when he was arrested and immediately whisked to Accra to assist the police to investigate the case.
