Stars Set To Upset Portugal

The Black Stars are set to upset their Portuguese counterparts in their World Cup opening Group H game today in Qatar, news from the Ghanaian camp has suggested.

The Otto Addo men are buoyed by the current happenings (upset) in the competition coupled with their impressive showing against the Swiss, to prevail over Cristiano Ronaldo’s side.

Indeed, the Stars’ quest to prove a point to all whom, until recently, doubted their readiness for the showpiece has raised morale in camp.

Of course, the infamous 2-1 historic win recorded by less fancied side Saudi Arabia over Lionel Messi ‘s Argentina on Tuesday seem to be the Stars trump card in today’s contest.

Ahead of the tournament, Portugal’s captain, Ronaldo, admitted the enormity of today’s clash taking into consideration the West Africans quality.

To him, if Portugal will travel far in the tournament then they must start well with a win over their African opponents, but noted that will not be achieved on a silver platter.

Yesterday at the Qatar National Convention Centre, coach Otto Addo and his captain, Dede Ayew gave the assurance of their readiness ahead of the clash.

The duo told the media that the build up to the tournament – international friendly games and training sessions will guide them to do the needful in today’s clash.

The coach said that he has no injury concerns and that alone is a good sign.

And responding to how the absence of his two top goalkeepers will affect his game plan, he said that has been taken care of, and gave the assurance that all his charges are combat ready to give their best shots.

Ghana will take on Portugal at Stadium 974 today.

The Stars are making a return to the global showpiece after missing the 2018 edition hosted by Russia.
