Student Commits Suicide

The body being taken away

A young man, identified as Nana Derick and believed to be a final year student of the Takoradi Technical University (TTU) has allegedly committed suicide.

He is alleged to have hanged himself with a sponge on a ceiling fan in his private hostel at West Tanokrom in the Effia-Kwesiminstim Municipality of the Western Region.

Other tenants in the house indicated that the deceased, who hailed from Bogoso, has been occupying the room for some time now, and had a very good relationship with everyone.

“I share a kitchen with him and speak to him every morning. On that fateful day on Friday, I went to the kitchen and realised his phone had been ringing without response.

“I became alarmed and opened his door only to see his lifeless body dangling on the ceiling fan with his two hands tied at his back. I raised an alarm that attracted other tenants to the scene, before calling the Police,” a tenant who have her name as Joana indicated.

Later, Police personnel were dispatched to the scene and conveyed the body to the Effia -Nkwanta regional hospital morgue whilst investigation continues.

Some residents in the area who visited the scene before the Police arrived are suspecting foul play.

“How can someone who has hanged himself have both hands tied at his back? So, I think there is more to it than we might think,” one of the residents indicated.
