Popular Nollywood actor, Sylvester Madu, aka Shina Rambo, narrowly escaped a fatal attack in Bamenda, Cameroon, on Saturday, as unidentified gunmen stormed a local drinking spot, resulting in the tragic deaths of four individuals.
Sylvester Madu had recently travelled to Bamenda on November 23, 2023, to work on a film project aimed at advocating against hard drug addiction. The film company, DAMA Films, confirmed the incident in a statement released on Monday.
According to the statement, the attack occurred around 10pm when Madu was at BIG G VIP, Mile 3 Nkwen, for a guest appearance at a snooker championship, organised by Big G. The event had been proceeding smoothly until gunshots rang out, prompting chaos and panic among the attendees.
DAMA Films recounted the sequence of events: “At past 10pm, we heard gunshots from outside, and many ran helter-skelter, leading to the deaths of four civilians and over 10 wounded. The police intervened, securing the safety of Nollywood actor, Sylvester Madu, and dispersing the crowd.”
The police are actively investigating the incident, assuring the safety of Sylvester Madu and facilitating his return to Nigeria. The motive behind the attack remains unknown, as the entertainment community anxiously awaits further updates on this unfortunate and shocking event.
