West Ham failed in an audacious move to lure Carlos Tevez back to East London, with the Argentinian rejecting an offer of £150,000 per week, the Mirror reported. Tevez has been playing for Boca Juniors since last year, after a highly successful spell with Juventus culminated in heartbreak at the hands of Barcelona in the 2015 Champions League final.
West Ham chairman David Sullivan revealed to the English publication that Tevez demanded £250,000 per week to return to the Premier League, after reaching out to make the 32-year-old their No. 1 striker.
“All this business, ‘I love West Ham.’ Well, it’s ‘I love West Ham if they give me 250 grand a week.’ So how much love is that for West Ham?” Sullivan was quoted as saying. “I actually offered him 150 grand a week to come back plus bonuses. I thought that was an incredible offer for someone who loves West Ham. It wasn’t a publicity stunt — I saw him being our No.1 striker.”
The Hammers have struggled to lure a top-class striker this summer, with numerous failed bids. The club’s recruitment failures could force them to trigger the £24 million release clause of AC Milan’s Carlos Bacca.
