The Stars’ Lost Twinkles (2)

Black Stars players

The national disgrace brought upon Ghana by the abysmal performance of our national team, the Black Stars against the Sudanese national team cannot be assuaged by any apology.

The playing body, the technical team and Kurt Okraku’s Ghana Football Association (GFA) cannot inflict needless heartaches among football fans and turn round to say “we are sorry.”

For some years now, the Black Stars have approached the game as if they are doing the nation a favour, when the state spends a fortune to ensure the players are in a good frame to ply their trade.

Those associated with the Black Stars no longer see the team’s participation in international tournaments as means not only to enhance our international reputation but the economic gain as well. Going forward, we should make patriotism and the desire to die for mother Ghana the condition for national team call up, but not business as usual where the Kurt Okraku GFA has made it an incubator for personal economic gain.

We must begin the rebuilding of the Black Stars even as we continue to participate in ongoing tournaments at the continental and global stage. The outcomes of our involvement in tournaments have been very disappointing and we cannot continue on the same path that has reduced Ghana soccer into a laughing stock.

It is objectionable and the government must crack the whip to get Ghana football back on track.

Last Tuesday, Mohammed Kudus, captained the Black Stars as if Ghana was engaged in a fun game with Sudan. Otto Addo’s charges played last Tuesday as if nothing was at stake, and broke the heart of the football nation.

Many Ghanaians have come to the conclusion that the Black Stars, the coach, Otto Addo and the playing body are joking with their hearts, and that one risks heart attack watching the Black Stars.

Some football fans are of the view that we ignore the so-called Ghanaian footballers plying their trade in Europe and rely on local talents for a future Black Stars. Some players are no longer committed to the Black Stars as they have approached recent Black Stars assignments in a very lackadaisical manner.

They are not ready to die for Ghana any longer. It is in this vein that we call on the President of the Republic, President Akufo-Addo to dissolve the Black Stars and the GFA, regardless of any sanctions that FIFA and CAF would impose on us.

We think we can use the transition period of the ban to rebuild our national teams, especially the Black Stars, so that we can return to the world football stage with a big bang and bring back the glorious days of the national team like was showcased during the World Cup in South Africa in 2010.
