A tragic road car crash on the Mpasatia-Kumasi highway has left three individuals seriously injured, raising renewed concerns about road safety in the area.
The accident involved two private vehicles: a Mitsubishi with registration number GR-8038-25 and an Opel Astra bearing registration number AS-520-15. According to eyewitness reports, the crash happened at a section of the highway with limited visibility, contributing to the severity of the collision.
The impact of the crash left both vehicles badly mangled, creating a chaotic scene that drew scores of onlookers. Residents and passersby rushed to the aid of the victims before emergency services arrived. Personnel from the Ghana Police Service later secured the scene and assisted in rescuing the injured individuals from the wreckage.
The three victims, whose identities have not yet been disclosed, were rushed to the Frimpong Boateng Medical Centre in Toase for emergency medical treatment. Hospital authorities say they are in a stable but critical condition.
Initial investigations suggest that one of the drivers may have lost control due to speeding, although a full report is yet to be issued by the police. The authorities are urging motorists to observe all traffic regulations and drive cautiously, especially along routes prone to accidents like the Mpasatia-Kumasi highway.
This incident adds to the growing number of road accidents recorded in the Ashanti Region in recent months. Community leaders are calling on the Department of Urban Roads and the Ministry of Transport to take immediate steps to improve road safety measures in the area, including the installation of better signage, speed bumps, and increased police patrols.
