Based on his activities to keep beaches in the country clean, afrobeat musician David Kumordzie, popularly known as Togbe Ghana, has been honoured by the organisers of the Ghana Environmental and Sanitation Award 2022 for embarking on beach cleaning exercises at the various beaches in the country.

Togbe Ghana was honoured with the most Distinguished Clean Beaches Advocate 2022 at the awards ceremony held at the AH Hotel, East Legon in Accra.

The award ceremony, which was organised to celebrate and reward businesses and individuals pushing the sanitation and environmental cleanliness agenda, was graced by a number of personalities.

The nomination, according to organisers, focused on individuals and organisations making great impact on environmental and sanitation upkeep, in the media, waste management, biodiversity and climate change.

This year’s event was on the theme “Celebrating distinguished service to Ghana’s environmental and sanitation narrative – Over the last decade.”

Togbe Ghana proved himself to be the best at what he does and rose above his peers to win the most Distinguished Clean Beaches Advocate 2022.

Togbe Ghana, who is the leader and founder of Togbe Ghana Foundation, said he is excited about his award, and commended the organisers for recognising his efforts to keep the beaches in the country clean.

He added that there is the need to raise red flags on the dangers of sanitation issues and environmental practices.

He and his team have taken upon themselves to embark on nationwide beach cleaning exercise to promote tourism in the country, as well as educate people on the need to keep beaches and their areas free from waste and plastic material.

The clean-up exercise is also being used to create awareness about the negative human impact on the planet, in particular the harm caused by excessive and improper disposal of waste, and the impact of plastic on marine life.
